Hitomi didn't know what happened. One minute she was watching Akio's back to make sure she didn't get lost and the next minute she was completely alone. The stream of students was suddenly gone, just as the bell rang, leaving Hitomi standing in the middle of the hallway not quite sure where to go. She quickly checked her schedule for which room she was supposed to be in along with the map that was supposed to help tell her where everything was. It made no sense, she had no idea where to go, she didn't remember the school being this big when she checked it out. She leaned against the wall, already feeling hopeless, she just wanted to go home. She slid down the wall and put her head in her arms. This was the worst day ever.

"Mori-san!"
Hitomi's head snapped up with a start. The stern face of a teacher glared down at her.
"Um, yes?" she asked.
"Sleeping in class already? I hope this won't be a problem in the future! Now! Pay attention!" He said before calling on someone else in her class to answer a question. Hitomi sighed that she dodged that bullet. But wait. She looked around confused. She was in what was presumably her classroom. But the last thing she remembered was being hopelessly lost in the hallway, how did she end up here? She looked up at the clock on the wall and noticed that it was already the afternoon. How? What had happened between then and now? Now she felt even more lost because she had no idea what she was supposed to have learned in the classes before this one, or even what class this was! How did she get through lunch? What classes did she miss? She looked down at her desk, she picked up her book, flipping to the front. She was in history class, flipping back to the page she was on, checking what lesson they were on. Peering at the clock once again she realized that they didn't have long before the end of the day. Nonetheless, she listened intently to what the teacher was saying to catch up.

As the bell rang all the students stood up and bowed to the teacher before gathering up their things. Hitomi grabbed her bag and shoved her books into it as she raced out of the classroom. At her shoe locker she dropped to her knees and rifled through her book bag. She pulled out her other books and notes. Everything was written out as though she was present for the classes, although she couldn't recall anything from the notes. Looking more closely the notes didn't even look like her hand writing. Did she ask someone for the notes? Who? She looked through each notebook but couldn't find a name, although they were definitely her notebooks. She stared at them, puzzled, as the other students left around her. There was something else. The handwriting. It wasn't just that it wasn't hers, there were a couple of different ones, as though multiple people were writing the notes. Suddenly that foreboding feeling washed over her. She shivered as chills ran down her back. Her nightmare flashing through head.

'What did it mean?'

Slowly Hitomi started walking home. Her mind a complete blank. She had no idea what was going on and she didn't know what to think. Frankly, she was scared but she refused to think about the dream again. Every time she did she felt as though an icicle was being stabbed into her heart and she got goosebumps. She neared home just as the sun was starting to set.
"I'm home!" She called as she pulled off her shoes.
"Welcome, home dear!" Her mothers voice came from the kitchen. Hitomi entered, watching her mother stirring meat in a pan. "How was your day?" She asked without turning around. Hitomi didn't know what to say, and she wasn't sure if she should mention what happened to her mother.
"It was alright." she shrugged "Same lessons, new people."
"Did you meet anyone friendly?" Her mother turned around wielding a spatula.
"Uhm, no, everyone was pretty shy. It was the first day after all." her mother's face fell.
"Oh, that's to bad." Then Hitomi remebered.
"Well, there was one person," She said, a smile growing at the memory, "there was a boy. I nearly got trampled and he caught me."
"OH!" Her mother exclaimed "A boy! A knight in shining armor! I love it!"
"It's not like he asked me out, mom" Hitomi said blushing slightly.
"Did you two do anything else?"
"Well, no, I lost him. I think he's in the year above me." Hitomi admitted.
"Well, don't give up just yet dear, I'm sure you'll find him again." Her mother waved dismissively.
"Mo-" "Now go wash up for dinner while I go tell the good news to your father."
Hitomi climbed the stairs, shaking her head. The truth was she did want to see him again, but. But what? What was stopping her from pursuing this guy? She was in high school, she should be trying out relationships, right? And yet she knew herself too well. She wouldn't pursue it, she got anxious as she thought about it. Being around people scared her, being around a boy scared her more.
She looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her dirty blonde hair poofed around her head, kept away from her face by her black headband which was her everyday accessory. There was nothing significant about her, nothing that would attract Akio again. He probably already forgot about her.
Making her way to the dinner table, she smiled at her father.
"I'm glad you met at least one person today, Hitomi. That's a good start." He said with a nod
"Thanks dad, it's not a big deal. Besides, he probably already forgot I exist. We only talked for a minute."
"Keep your hopes up, dear, chance meetings can always turn to something more. Have we ever told you about the day we met? Now that was a chance meeting!" Her father said, getting a far away look in his eyes.
"Da-" "It all started at my part time job after school-" He launched into his tale. The rest of dinner was made of anecdotes about the day her parents met and their early days as a couple.

Hitomi finished her dinner and was finally able to excuse herself from her parents storytelling. Besides it was starting to get, let's say, too intimate for her liking. She closed the door to her room and flopped onto her bed. Taking a deep breath. She didn't bother to turn on the lights, so her room was rather dark, shadows stretched all the way across the floor. She closed her eyes and rolled onto her side. She felt a headache coming on, it felt like her head wanted to explode. She blinked her eyes open and then sat up quickly, startled. She thought she saw something, like figure. She blinked again, no nothing was there. She could have sworn... Hitomi sighed. It must be stress. Yes, she was tired. That had to be it. It seemed like a good idea to go to bed early.

The next morning was a gloomy one. Possibly threatening the last big rainfall of the summer. Hitomi's head was pounding, apparently getting a good nights sleep was not the answer this time. Groggily she got dressed and ready for school. At breakfast she made sure to study her map and she vowed as soon as she got to school she would find her way around. Hitomi's mother set her bento on the table and looked down at her paper.
"Having trouble finding your way around?" she asked
"Um," Hitomi hesitated. Should she tell her about what happened yesterday? Would she think she was crazy? "Mom?" she asked. Her mother looked at her intently.
"What is it, dear?"
"Have you ever just like spaced out for some reason? Like one minute your in one place and the next your somewhere else without knowing how you got there?"
"Well, sure dear, it happens all the time when I drive!" She replied with a smile on her face. Hitomi realized she didn't understand the question. She knew about that kind of spacing out but she meant for a few hours at a time. She took a deep breath the clarify but her mother interrupted her.
"Come on, time to go! You don't want to be late! Don't worry so much dear, it's only your second day." She said cheerily as she pushed Hitomi out the door.

She was not a good mood. This headache was starting to get to her. It felt like her brain wanted to escape her skull. On a good note though she made it to her homeroom without a hitch. But that good feeling didn't last long. She got up to head to gym when suddenly she was back at her desk. The shift in time was so sudden she just sat in blinked for awhile. All the students were leaving the room but a look at the clock told her it was time to go home. Wait! This can't be happening again! She last remembered getting up to change into her gym clothes. She pulled her books out to once again see all the notes filled in, with the same penmanship as yesterday. Also her bento box was empty so clearly she ate at lunch. She slowly stood up, her legs wobbled.
"Hey! I saw you at gym today!" Came a familiar voice. She looked to her side to see Akio smiling down at her.
"You did?" she asked quietly.
"Yeah! I didn't know you were such an athlete!"
"Oh, I'm not that good-" She started to say when she remembered. She wasn't at gym class today. Although according to Akio she had been and she'd been good. She listened to him recount the soccer game they had played and how she was clearly the star of the game. But that wasn't right. Of all her subjects, gym was her worst. She did alright at school when it came to books but physical education was a whole new ball game. She got by but that was it.
"-Uh, are you ok?" Akio asked, noticing how quite she had gotten.
"Yes! Why?" she asked quickly.
"You look tense, and very pale." He said, concerned.
"Oh, no, I'm fine. Stood up to fast is all." She giggled nervously, "Hey, Akio, um, I have to get home now. Lots of homework, you know?"
"Sure, yeah. Hey! Do you have a phone? I'll give you my number, in case you want to hang out sometime." He offered.
"Yeah, here" She said handing him her phone as her head pounded worse than before.
"There you go," He handed it back, "Don't be afraid to call me if you need anything alright?"
"Ok," She said as she started walking towards the door. "See you tomorrow, Akio!" She practically ran home. He head felt heavy and she was definitely seeing things. Figures danced in front of her, going in and out of focus. She ran up to her front door and through off her shoes while shouting "I'm Back" as she ran up the stairs to her room, slamming the door.

"Well, hello, Hitomi"
